Apparently, Sony won’t be pushing Duncan Jone’s Moon (our review) for the Oscar campaign this year. And the reason for not giving one of the most original sci-fi pictures of the last few years the recognition it deserves? Money, of course.

Director Ducan Jones came to Twitter to express his disappointment:
“We have more than asked.. we’ve knocked heads. They have chosen the films they are backing and we are not in their plans. They say it costs too much for our little film as they would need to be water-marked copies as our DVD isn’t out yet in the US.”
Seriously? One can find a dozen copies of films online for piracy anyway and this watermarking has never helped piracy before. It’s a shame that they’ve decided to exclude a brilliant film on such a petty reason after giving it a bare-bones release which is why no one saw it.
There’s a petition to nominate Sam Rockwell for an Oscar for his emotionally draining performance that I fully support. Too bad Sony has no confidence in the film and it may really hurt the film’s chances I’m afraid.
