Taking a long break after ‘Apocalypto’, Mel Gibson is back with not just one, but two projects to wow you. One of them has the potential to be a high-profile event picture while the other looks to be a more ‘indie’ film.

Variety reports that the first film is set to be starring Leonardo DiCaprio and will be a Viking film. A 2010 shooting schedule is set and this one looks to me as something similar to Apocalypto since this also deals with a tribe. William Monahan (The Departed) is writing the screenplay. No plot details are available as of yet.
The second project, as Variety also reports, is much more complete in details. It’s called ‘How I spent My Summer Vacation’. But Gibson isn’t directing this one but has only written the screenplay, which “centers on a career criminal who gets caught by Mexican authorities and is sent to a drug- and crime-filled prison, where he learns how to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.” Adrian Grunberg is directing and Gibson is self-financing the movie.
I always loved every movie Gibson has made (Braveheart is in my Top 5) so this is great news. He’s also returning to screens in next year’s Edge of Darkness and Jodie Foster directed ‘The Beaver’.
