Looks like the long awaited installment ‘The Hobbit’ is still a little far away. MGM’s financial troubles might have a hand in this, but Peter Jackson recently unveiled in an interview with Moviereporter that he hopes the filming will begin mid-summer of next year rather than the March 2010 date set earlier.

“We’re currently working on the second script which we hope to have completed by the end of this year or beginning of next. When the scripts are completed, we can begin with the exact calculation of the necessary budget. We hope to start filming in the middle of next year. However, we’ve received no green light from the studio yet.”
Fans of LOTR should know that ‘The Hobbit’ is a prequel novel to the series with film adaptations to be directed by Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy). The films, split into two and shot concurrently like The Lord of the Rings, are set to be released on December 2011 and 2012 respectively. Note the fact that there’s no green light from the studio as of yet, and the fact that MGM is going to be auctioned in a couple of months doesn’t help either.
It remains to be seen how the drama there would affect the fate of this movie.
