Stupid Idea Of The Week: An ‘Amityville Horror’ Remake. Again.

Studios work in mysterious ways. Just as all of us warmed over the idea of ‘remakes’, they bring us something new. Remakes of remakes, for a lack of a better term. Bloody Disgusting reports that Weinstein Co and Dimension Films are planning to remake the 1979 cult hit ‘The Amityville Horror’. Only that it was already remade as a major motion picture in 2005.

The 2005 remake by Platinum Dunes starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George was one of the better and visually stunning remakes I had seen with a powerhouse performance by Reynolds. So I don’t see any need to remake the movie here. And it doesn’t sound to be a reboot like ‘The Hulk’ or ‘Punisher’ was. Is 2005 really that far away that we need another Amityville Horror film in theaters? I don’t see any other reason to do this other than cash in on the success on ‘Paranormal Activity’ and its haunted house theme here. They’ll probably even make it 3D.
Nothing’s confirmed officially yet, and I really hope it stays that way.
