This came across as a shock. The Academy has shortlisted the number of documentaries eligible for awards in the ‘Best Documentary’ category. And its a shock to not see movies like Sacha Gervaisi’s ‘Anvil!: The Story of Anvil’ among the list which was one of the most touching documentaries I had ever seen. Also missing are biggies like Michael Moore’s ‘Capitalism’ and ‘Tyson’ among a few.

Why did this happen? Was it a release date issue or were they flat-out rejected? It’s surely disheartening to know Anvil wouldn’t even be in the running. But there’s a lot of good documentaries present in the list including the highlight ‘The Cove’ and ‘Food Inc.’

Full list of eligible documentaries after the jump.

  • The Beaches of Agnes
  • Burma VJ
  • The Cove
  • Every Little Step
  • Facing Ali
  • Food, Inc.
  • Garbage Dreams
  • Living in Emergency: Stories of Doctors Without Borders
  • The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers
  • Mugabe and the White African
  • Sergio
  • Soundtrack for a Revolution
  • Under Our Skin
  • Valentino The Last Emperor
  • Which Way Home
