Roland Emmerich Plans Sequel To 2012 – A TV Series Called 2013

The epic disaster saga 2012 hasn’t even hit theaters yet, and the mastermind behind it all is planning a sequel to it – but not what you’re thinking. Roland Emmerich is planning a TV series title 2013 based on what happens after the events of 2012. Well, I guess that means that someone survives the apocalypse. Good to know, since I wouldn’t pay 30 bucks to see the world blow up into pieces and killing everyone on the planet.

2012

In an interview promoting the film at the red carpet, Emmerich said to Entertainment Weekly,

“The plan is that it is 2013 and it’s about what happens after the disaster. It is about the resettling of Earth. That is very, very fascinating.  Harald Kloser and I came up with the idea and we have the luxury of having a producer on the film who is a big TV producer, Mark Gordon. We said to Mark, ‘Why don’t you do a TV show that picks up where the movie leaves off and call it 2013?’ I think it will focus on a group of people who survived but not on the boats … maybe they were on a piece of land that was spared or one that became an island in the process of the crust moving. There are so many possibilities of what they could do and I’d be excited to watch it.”

Although the show has an intriguing concept to start with (rebuilding the Earth from a small island), it remains to be seen how well the movie will do at the box-office before any action is taken (although pre-release buzz suggests it’s a hit). I’m not so hot about the movie, although I wouldn’t mind a TV show.

Who knew the end of the world could be so financially viable.
