Scary Movie 5 In Development.

Spoofs is a genre that started off brilliantly and then hit such a low point that it’s very hard to recover from it now. But Scary Movie 5 could be one that would help. Cinemablend reports that Miramax is moving forward with Scary Movie 5, the new installment in the long running and iconic spoof comedy franchise, and it will most probably be a reboot instead of a continuation.

Since they’re going for a reboot here (which I think is a bad idea), it’s most likely that Anna Faris will not return and a new cast will play a host of different roles. The first four films were all box office successes and earned Weinsteins their biggest hits. It was only time a fifth one was in development.

The four spoof movies of the apocalypse - “Date Movie”, “Epic Movie”, “Meet The Spartans” and “Disaster Movie” successfully managed to dig the genre so down into the ground that even amusing movies like “Superhero Movie” bombed because of a similar title although they had nothing to do with them. It will be very hard to save the genre, but the franchise that has the power to do it is “Scary Movie”. That, and probably “Airplane!” too. But I think Anna Faris needs to be back not only for giving the film some star value, she is also one of the greatest leading comedic actresses around.
