‘The Avengers 2′ dated for May 1st, 2015
Sequel to the highest grossing film of the year gets a release date.
Well, that was sooner than I expected. After making a gazillion dollars worldwide, ‘The Avengers’ clearly proved to Marvel that there’s massive money to be made with the ensemble superhero series and while they’ve set the Phase 2 of the Marvel films for the next few years (Thor 2, Iron Man 3, Captain America 2), ‘The Avengers 2′ is their main concern and it all builds up for a release date less than three years away.
Here’s the official statement by Disney which confirms the film’s release date, which will have Joss Whedon returning to write and direct:
The Walt Disney Studios has announced a release date for Marvel Studios’ sequel to the biggest Super Hero blockbuster and third highest grossing film of all time, Marvel’s The Avengers. Joss Whedon returns to write and direct the UNTITLED MARVEL’S AVENGERS SEQUEL set for release May 1, 2015.
Notice that they didn’t really title the film yet, so there’s most likely going to be a subtitle somewhere there. But it’s good to see the gang back, especially the fact that they waited to get Joss Whedon on board instead of just cashing in with someone else.
