Hit zombie TV show ‘The Walking Dead’ being eyed for a feature film?

By Faisal Hashmi on August 21, 2012

A feature film followup to the hit AMC zombie TV show could be in early talks.

First Impressions
My reaction is

While most people were skeptical of a zombie-themed TV show, AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ has been such a smashing success worldwide in terms of reviews and record breaking ratings that it’s a no brainer that the owners of the property want to further mine it. There are already two games based on the TV show which in itself is based on a famous graphic novel of the same name, but now we can possibly add a feature film to the list.

Bleeding Cool has the word from some unnamed sources who ‘work closely’ on the TV show that there is talk going on for a feature film follow-up to the series. It’s purely a “non-business conversation” for now, and is probably a few years away since they will think about it most likely when the TV show is about to end but it’s interesting nonetheless because the comic book was actually shopped by creator Robert Kirkman initially as a feature film before it became a TV show that it is. Would it be a film with the exact same characters set directly after the events of the show or will it tell a different story in the same world?

It’s too far away to speculate on that, but out of all the possible TV to film rumors that float around, this one seems the most cinematic and organic.

Thoughts?
