First Impressions
My reaction is

Following the mantra of rebooting things when they’re too stale to continue, the Jack Ryan series is getting a reboot after Ben Affleck played the character last in ‘The Sum of All Things’. Chris Pine had been attached to the role for a long time and now Kenneth Branagh is directing the film as well as playing the villain. Now, they’ve got a female lead as well.

Actress Keira Knightley has been selected to play the female lead in the reboot that was previously called Moscow but doesn’t have a title yet. THR says that she beat out quite a lot of heavyweights for the role – Lost‘s Evangeline Lilly, Felicity Jones. Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale were all in the running. The film will be about a younger Jack Ryan working as a financial analyst in Moscow when he realises a larger conspiracy against the US and is forced on the run to save his country. Sounds interesting and works as a prequel if they do it right.

Thoughts?

Actually, she didn’t beat out Beckinsale or Biel. Beckinsale and Biel turned the role down, probably because the role was little more than moral support and a passing love internet.
