‘Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters’ to be an R-rated film?
Will the teen oriented fantasy action movie release as an R-rated adventure?
‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ failed to set the box-office on fire as the studio must have hoped for, which coupled with ‘Cowboys and Aliens’ lets us believe that audiences aren’t so keen on watching movies with silly titles no matter what the content of the film is. Another similarly titled film is the upcoming ‘Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’ which puts a new spin on the fabled characters. Starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton, the film was delayed to January of 2013 by the studios so that Renner is a bigger star by then and now it looks like the film itself may release with a surprising R rating.

Collider reports that the film will released as a proper R, but other reports suggest that Paramount is testing both the PG-13 as well as the R rated version which might be getting the better response. Though it would be great to see the film release unadulterated with an R rating, I don’t see how it will cater to that audience unless it’s very gory and adult in its style. ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ would have badly tanked if it was R-rated, and the PG-13 really helped with that happening.
