First Look: Daniel Day Lewis in ‘Lincoln’ is more than uncanny
The Oscar-winning actor gears for another one in Spielberg’s Abraham Lincoln biopic due in November.
Boy, must the studio of this film be hoping that audiences don’t confuse it with ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ of this summer. Because that would make for a strange but oddly more interesting movie. Director Steven Spielberg is set to steal the Oscar thunder later this year with ‘Lincoln’ and no one better than Daniel Day Lewis to play that role. So much so that in this official image below, he looks more like Abraham Lincoln than Abraham Lincoln himself.
EW has this image, and also quotes from Spielberg describing the film:
Our movie is really about a working leader who must make tough decisions and get things done in the face of overwhelming opposition… [The film begins with] Lincoln’s realization that the Emancipation Proclamation, the thing he is most known for, was simply a war powers act that would easily be struck down by any number of lawyers after the cessation of hostilities after the Civil War. He needed to abolish slavery by constitutional measure — and that’s where we start.
Who else stars in the film? Well, I’m glad you asked – Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gulliver McGrath, David Strathairn, Tommy Lee Jones, with Jackie Earle Haley, Jared Harris, Lee Pace, James Spader, John Hawkes, Bruce McGill, Adam Driver, Walton Goggins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Tim Blake Nelson, David Oyelowo and Hal Holbrook. Film opens stateside on November 9, and a UAE release probably much later.
Thoughts?
