Warner Bros. planning ‘The Shining’ prequel
While Stephen King is writing a sequel novel, WB plans a prequel to the Stanley Kubrick classic horror film.
Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’ is not only known as one of the most enduring horror films of our time, it has become a classic in its own right with Jack Nicholson’s memorable and chilling performance among other things. Stephen King has announced that he’s planning a sequel novel to the original book that will follow the son from the original book as he has grown up. But looks like Warner Bros. are planning a prequel instead.
It’s still in the early stages, but LA Times reports that WB is considering a prequel to ‘The Shining’ which will follow the events preceding Jack Torrance and his family moving into the Overbrook Hotel. Now the prequel would either be about the Torrance family before they moved in there (which would be a very boring movie), or about what happened to the family that stayed there before them which would be interesting but more like the prequel to ‘The Thing’ from last year. Either way, Laeta Kalogridis, Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt have been hired to craft a new take that would be interesting so let’s see what those guys come up with.
What would you want from a prequel of ‘The Shining’, if at all?
