Marvel and ABC developing ‘Avengers’ themed TV series

By Faisal Hashmi on July 30, 2012

May not have any of the Avengers in them, though.

First Impressions
My reaction is

Looks like Marvel is really serious about getting into the TV business, even though we haven’t seen anything concrete yet. Their development of the ‘Hulk’ TV series along with Guillermo Del Toro on ABC hasn’t had any significant update lately, but looks like they have plans for something more interesting.

Deadline reports that Marvel is in talks with ABC to develop a TV series set in the world of ‘The Avengers’. This isn’t to say that the film will feature any of the superheroes from the hit movie, just that the show will take place in a world where superheroes exist and probably will have a lot of Marvel related references. Keep in mind that they say that this is currently “a kernel of an idea” so they’re still brainstorming what to do but the show will feature “some of [The Avengers'] themes and feel but may not include any characters from Joss Whedon’s blockbuster.”

I think that’s a very raw and unfinished idea but if they manage to crack a story that’s worth telling in that universe, then I’d be really interested. Unless it’s one of those generic cop procedurals, in which case no thanks.

Thoughts?
