Denzel Washington to get his own potential franchise with ‘The Equalizer’
Oscar-winning actor signs on to action movie based on TV series.
Denzel Washington is an actor who does a lot of drama as well as action movies, but he’s been doing more of the latter recently and though you’ll see him back in drama with his upcoming ‘Flight’, he’s signed on to another action movie that might become his first franchise.

Deadline reports that Denzel Washington has signed on to star in Sony’s ‘The Equalizer’, based on the TV series of the same name. The plot involves former covert ops who donates his services to people facing trouble, and screenwriter Richard Wenk has turned in a script that the studio very much likes. But they say that since Washington is playing the lead, the script “takes off in its own way, tailored to Washington’s skills. He’ll play a solitary, monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized.”
Sounds about right, if not terribly original. But I can see franchise potential here.
