Cast/Director Wishlist for Six Videogame Adaptations

By Faisal Hashmi on July 19, 2012

We lay down six upcoming videogame adaptations and the perfect cast and director that we’d like for the job.

First Impressions
My reaction is

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Cast: Joseph Fiennes (Adam Jensen), Morena Baccarin (Faridah Malik)

CSB is already developing a film based on one of the coolest games of last year, and it was a hard choice to decide who would play our hero Adam Jensen. Though Elias Toufexis, the actor who actually plays him in the game does a great job with the character, we wanted to go more realistic in terms of Hollywood names. And after shuffling choices including Ryan Reynolds, we finally decided on the perfect guy for the job – Joseph Fiennes. He’s an excellent actor that not only looks the part but carries that rough feel to him that Jensen requires. As for our female lead Faridah Malik, we could find no one better to play her than the fan favorite Morena Baccarin. She charmed us in ‘Firefly’ and later in the remake of the TV show ‘V’, and she would totally do justice to the role.

Director: David Fincher

The world of the game is not only very cinematic but also has a heavy cyberpunk influence to it, and we couldn’t find more talented of a director than David Fincher himself to helm the film. It has all the anti-establishment themes that he’s passionate about tackling as we saw in his classic ‘Fight Club’, and he would have great command over the material here and would actually give us something even more unique.

Metal Gear Solid

Cast: Hugh Jackman (Solid Snake), Christian Bale (Liquid Snake)

A ‘Metal Gear Solid’ film has been talked about since close to a decade now, but there hasn’t been much activity on that front. But whenever it ends up happening, who they cast as Solid Snake will be the dealbreaker for most people. And after a lot of thought, we decided that Hugh Jackman is the guy to go with. He has the gruff personality, looks and we really think he would look great in camouflage with the role. Plus, he can actually act as well. Now I know that most people had pegged Christian Bale as a favorite to play the character, but I think he’s best fit to play the antagonist Liquid Snake who is supposed to share similarities with Solid Snake. Bale is British so he would be a great fit for the more calm Liquid Snake rather than going Batman on us again, and it would be a role against type that would not only be exciting to watch but would be a fascinating match-up against Jackman.

Director: Neil Blomkamp

We’re big fans here of ‘District 9’ and believe that it was a modern sci-fi classic, and that is why director Neil Blomkamp is the perfect guy to helm the film. ‘Metal Gear Solid’ is a gritty game for the most part, but also isn’t afraid to delve into sci-fi a lot of times and Blomkamp certainly has the ability to not make the science fiction feel far-fretched and out of place by still keeping it grounded in reality. That’s what we want from our ‘Metal Gear Solid’ film.
