Jim Carrey leaves ‘Dumb and Dumber’ sequel because studio doesn’t care enough
But Jeff Daniels hopes that it still happens.
After the sequel to ‘Ace Ventura’, Jim Carrey had sworn off from doing sequels but his stance changed last year when he agreed to sign on to the sequel to one of his funniest films ‘Dumb and Dumber’. And while the project looked like it would be fast-tracked, apparently the studio isn’t that interested. And that’s why Carrey has decided to exit the project.

ET Online reports that Jim Carrey is out of the picture because he felt there’s a lack of studio enthusiasm for the film. Peter and Bob Farrelly have been set to return alongside Jeff Daniels, but looks like Carrey is gone for now. He joked:
“I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer, after all it’s implied in the title.”
It’s puzzling to see why the studio isn’t rushing on the project right away considering how much of a classic the original is. But maybe the lukewarm performance of ‘The Three Stooges’ and the waning star power of Carrey might be the reason?
But actor Jeff Daniels is still holding out hope for the project. In an interview with Craig Ferguson, he spoke about the topic:
“Well, Jim’s upset. He’s got a pretty good reason to be, so my hope is that it will [happen]. There’s a list of names, and he’s got his people working on them one-by-one. That’s all I’m going to say. He wants to do it. The Farrelly’s want to do it. I want to do it. I think America needs it.”
We tend to agree.
