MTV developing ‘Scream’ TV series
Ghostface will invade your small screens very soon.
I loved the hell out of ‘Scream 4′ and thought that it should have done a lot more business than it ended up doing, but the sequel for the franchise is now shrouded in mystery. What we do know now is that MTV is already developing a TV show based on the Wes Craven hit slasher movie franchise that defined the genre back in the 90′s.
TVLine has the scarce details on the project, but we know that it’s going to be a weekly series with ex-MTV execs Tony DiSanto and Liz Gateley are working on the project. But what format would it be? I doubt any of the cast from the movies are going to return, and this will most likely feature a brand new cast of youngsters where the format of self-aware deaths by Ghostface will keep happening until the mystery is solved. It’s a pretty cool idea that will translate well on screen, but at the same time I hope they don’t completely stop the film franchise. ‘Harper’s Island’ did this weekly slasher format on TV a few years back and it worked creatively, though the show never got picked up for Season 2.
