‘The Expendables’, ‘Red’ and ‘Step Up’ could all become TV shows
But will the ensemble star casts agree to TV?
For those who didn’t know, Lionsgate is thinking of continuing the ‘Twilight’ saga as a TV show after the movies are done since they acquired the studio Summit Entertainment recently. But that’s the only film they’re planning to do so with – two ensemble action movies and a popular dance franchise is in the running as well.
Deadline reports that at a conference call, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer mentioned that not only are they considering a TV adaptation of ‘The Expendables’, the list also includes ‘Red’ and ‘Step Up’ which they ended up acquiring alongside the studio itself.
While ‘Step Up’ is something that I can see on TV working, ‘Red’ and “The Expendables” would be very tricky to pull off because they largely rely on their collective star value and nothing else. I find it hard to believe that actors like Stallone and Jason Statham among others will make a move to TV with the show, and replacing the entire cast with new actors will not have the same effect and isn’t really the point. Same goes for ‘Red’, but that has the gimmick of great senior actors coming together to do action so they can do the same for old TV stars instead of movie stars. But I’m not sure the lack of people like Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman will go so well.
But these are still ideas for now. What do you think?
