‘The Avengers’ leads to rise in shawarma sales
Watching the heroes eat shawarma leads to sell-outs in the US.
There was a scene at the end of the credits in ‘The Avengers’ that UAE audiences didn’t get to see. And no, I’m not talking about the reveal of the new villain in the sky (being vague for no spoilers). There was another scene in the U.S. version right at the end of the film where all our heroes sit together at a restaurant and enjoy shawarma at a shop that Tony Stark mentions during the finale of the film. Clearly, watching bad-ass superheroes eat shawarma is enough to sell American audiences on that delicacy and it worked wonders – the shop in question is now facing sell-outs.

TMZ reports that restaurants and cafes that sell shawarmas in Los Angeles are seeing 80 percent increases in sales and some shops are facing sell-outs by audiences wanting to try it out after a mention in the billion dollar hit of the year. It’s kind of funny to see it mentioned in the movie since the food item is a normal thing here in the Middle East.
It was a moment that Joss Whedon and Robert Downey Jr. improvised on the set itself, and is a nice little gag that’s actually having a real life result.
