‘The Dirty Picture’ too sexy for Indian TV
Censor board bans film to be aired during the 8pm slot.
Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture was deemed to be too sexy for Indian TV audiences after the Information and Broadcasting Ministry stalled the primetime screening of the movie this past Sunday on Sony TV.
The movie was scheduled for two screenings on Sunday, one at noon and the other during the primetime 8pm slot. However, despite the movie receiving over 50 cuts and a U/A certificate, the ministry instructed Sony to only air the movie after 11pm – a slot generally reserved for adult content.
“I am shocked and disappointed that this decision was taken at the last moment. What is even more shocking is that the decision of the censor board was overruled by the ministry,” said the film’s director Milan Luthria.”When promos and other films with U/A certificate can be shown on television why can’t my film? Are we not grown up as a society, why do we have to submit ourselves to external forces?”
Sony has to yet to issue an updated schedule for the movie.
