Sharlto Copley offered villain role in ‘Oldboy’ remake
Spike Lee’s remake of excellent Korean film now may have its bad guy.
The ‘Oldboy’ remake which first looked like an awful idea is looking more promising every day. First, Spike Lee was set to direct the film. Then, Josh Brolin was cast as the lead which was admittedly a great choice. Now, the movie might have had its bad guy and it’s another excellent choice if it ends up happening.

Variety reports that the studio has offered the role of the villain to actor Sharlto Copley. Audiences have seen the actor most famously as the lead in District 9 and his performance was award-worthy in that already excellent film. He later appeared in a hilarious role in ‘The A-Team’ and was a highlight of that film, but this would be quite a departure for him. Anyone who has seen the original Korean film knows how important the villain is in the movie despite not a long screen time. The role has previously been passed by Clive Owen and Colin Firth, so this is not a complete confirmation at this point. But I’d much rather see this guy get the role and surprise us.
