Universal adapting ‘The Cat in the Hat’ as 3D animated feature
Not the awful Mike Meyers family film that we saw a decade ago.
Universal and Illumination Entertainment repeated their ‘Despicable Me’ box-office success once again with ‘The Lorax’ this month, which opened to big numbers and is already a sizable hit. Now, Universal looks to be in the Dr. Seuss game and looks to re-do a classic property of his that they previously botched majorly.

Deadline says that Universal will team up with Illumination Entertainment’s Chris Meledandri to adapt the Dr. Seuss book ’The Cat in the Hat’ into a movie again. Keep in mind that the property was already adapted into an awful Mike Meyers live-action project that even the writer’s wife Audrey Stone Geisel hated to the core. But now, they want to make it a 3D CGI animation feature just like ‘The Lorax’, which was another Seuss project which worked out quite fine. Rob Lieber is writing the script.
Being one of Seuss’s most popular characters, let’s hope Universal does it justice this time around for real.
