Get ready for the best-titled sequel ever – ‘Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes’
Sequel to 2011′s animated hit isn’t giving up on gnome puns.
Last year, there was a cute little animated movie called ‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ which took the concept of Romeo & Juliet and told it through warring garden gnome families with a distinct British flavor. But that was about it – it wasn’t groundbreaking in its plot and was easily forgettable. Yet, looks like a sequel is already in order. And if you though it was going to give up the whole ‘gnome’ pun angle, think again.
Elton John‘s Rocket Pictures is already prepping a sequel called ’Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes’, which once again indicates that the entire sequel was greenlit most likely because someone in the studio came up with a brilliant pun of a title. Predictably, the story follows Gnomeo and Juliet as they seek out “the great ornamental detective” Sherlock Gnomes to investigate the mysterious disappearances of garden gnomes all around England.
CEO Steve Hamilton Shaw describes the film as “a fun, broad family film” with “strong musical elements”, according to Deadline. Elton John is working on some new tunes while writers Andy Riley and Kevin Cecil are working on a draft. James McAvoy and Emily Blunt are expected to return as well.
