Max Landis hired to write ‘Chronicle 2′
Original writer returns for sequel to this year’s superhero hit.
At a budget of a tiny $12 million for a superhero movie, ‘Chronicle’ managed to not only gross more than $105 million worldwide so far but happened to be one of the only mainstream movies this year that earned critical and audience acclaim equally. Naturally, Fox would be interested in a sequel but director Josh Trank has been unsure about it and wants to work on original ideas more. But the studio has gone ahead and hired the writer of the original for a second round anyway.
Deadline reports that writer Max Landis has been signed on to script ‘Chronicle 2′, and that’s pretty much all we know right now. There’s no information about where the sequel will head, which characters will return or even whether Trank is involved or not. I would sure hope Trank is involved because his innovative style of directing the film definitely helped it a lot, and it would be a shame to see a throw-away director take on the series that he pioneered. But there are reports of him being involved with a Venom film for Sony, so only time will tell what happens.
