Dreamworks remaking Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Rebecca’
Hitchcock’s Best Picture winner is getting the remake treatment.
One of the most prolific directors in film history is Sir Alfred Hitchcock and classics like ‘Psycho’, ‘North by Northwest’, ‘Rear Window’ and ‘Vertigo’ are more than proof of that. One movie that doesn’t get enough mentions is ‘Rebecca’, which is the only film of the director to win Best Picture. Now, the movie is getting the remake treatment by Dreamworks.

Variety reports that DreamWorks and Working Title have hired writer Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) to work on the screenplay of the new movie based on the original classic, which was about a widower whose new wife is being affected by the spirit of his old wife. It was based on the 1938 book by Daphne du Maurier, and looks like the new movie might be a little different take-wise.
Considering Dreamworks previously already remade ‘Rear Window’ unofficially by ripping off entire sections in ‘Disturbia’, it’s good to know that they’re doing this as an official remake. I just hope that it doesn’t taint the original and actually has a point, unlike Gus Van Sant’s shot to shot remake of ‘Psycho’.
