‘Horrible Bosses 2′ gets screenwriters, cast & director will likely return
Warner Brothers ready for sequel to 2011′s hilarious comedy hit.
‘Horrible Bosses’ was the funniest film of 2011 and was actually a surprise hit as well, which quickly had Warner Brothers pondering a sequel to the dark comedy. Now, that move has been made official with the studio hiring screenwriters to pen the sequel.
The Hollywood Reporter says that screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, writers on the first film, have been hired to pen the sequel. Not only that, but director Seth Gordon as well as the core cast of the film (Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis) are expected to return.
We have no information on the plot, but this is going to be a tricky movie to make. A movie like ‘The Hangover’ is easier to sequelize because the same thing can happen to the characters once again (which is exactly what they did and was disappointing). But here, the conceit is that three normal guys wanted to kill their bosses. And the fate of all three bosses in the movie were varied and it’s unlikely that they will be back again. But that would mean there would be a new batch of bosses that they would have to kill, which would make for a very rehashed sequel.
There was an idea floating around that the studio will just take the general idea of the original and put it in different situations like ‘Horrible Teachers’ for example. But since the cast is returning, that idea doesn’t seem like it’s happening anymore unless they decide to spin that off into a new franchise in the future. So only time will tell where this sequel goes.
But for now, it’s good to know that the funny men from the original will be back for Round 2.
