First Impressions
My reaction is

2011 may have been a down year at the box-office in terms of attendance, but there was no shortage of good films of every kind for the viewer. But unlike last year where the fight for the best film ended up being pretty much between ‘The King’s Speech’ and ‘The Social Network’, the playing field is wide open this time around. Did you see a film this year that you can assuredly say will win Best Picture? Or Best Actor/Actress? Things aren’t so clear this time around which makes the award season even more interesting.

We here at ME-Movies decided to give you the top 15 films we saw in 2011 as well as some of our own awards. And that’s not it -we also count down some of the worst films in every genre. Thanks to delayed release dates in the region, there are some well-reviewed films like ‘War Horse’ and ‘The Artist’ that we haven’t seen yet but we tried to see everything possible.

Let’s see what made the cut.

Another nicely put together list! I have to thank you for putting Cowboys and Alien’s as the worst sci-fi flick – potentially worst movie of all time!

The only other thing – i still don’t understand what anyone saw in MI4 – it was 2011′s biggest disappointment for me…

Thank you@a146e0e43f31df17a11bb45c5c960ee9:disqus ! I guess I saw it at the world premiere without any reviews in and was surprised about it. Many saw it after its rave reviews and ended up disappointed. Any movie I go into knowing that it has amazing reviews always ends up somewhat disappointing me if not more – most recently ‘Hugo’. But other than that, I actually did like the film as well it was thrilling in its action scenes despite a weak villain and plot but the quality of the action and some humor etc. made up for that. What was your favorite action movie of the year?

  • Victor

Agree with most the films on the list.

I enjoyed Mi4 as well. Was really looking forward to it ever since they
announced Brad Bird was directing it. The script I have to admit feels
like a movie version of Alias – but there was something different about
    it.

Was really surprised about X-Men First Class. I knew Matthew Vaughn was
directing, but when I saw the first images and promotional posters
(remember those sucky silhouette teaser posters?) I didn’t think it
would be good. It was actually one of the best superhero movies I’ve
seen – it kinda ranks up there with X-Men 2.

I really enjoyed Scream 4. Too bad it didn’t do well at the box office. Some parts were predictable – but it manages to be scary and funny at the same time. Oh yeah, I guess I was one of the few that watched it more than once.

Worst horror movie for me would be The Human Centipede II. I enjoyed the first movie, since it didn’t highlight the gore but it focused more on the twisted mind of the doctor. Part II was garbage. It didn’t even make sense.

Kudos as well for including ‘I Saw The Devil”.

Oh by the way, have you guys seen ‘A Serbian Film’? Couldn’t finish the film since it was so twisted and disturbing. Some people liked it, some people don’t.

    • Faisal Hashmi

Thanks! I remember those sucky X-Men posters I couldn’t believe the studio even used those in the final print. But the movie shut me up.

Really loved ‘Scream 4′ it was a blast all the way through it’s sad that it flopped while so many other lame horror movies are hits.

Never watched a single ‘Human Centipede’ movie even though it’s intriguing I never felt like the film will use the concept in anything more than just a shock gimmick. One day I shall see them though and that will be an article in itself.

‘A Serbian Film’ everyone is disgusted with and I just want to see it for the sake of it although I myself doubt I’ll be able to finish it. ‘I Saw the Devil’ was bad-ass.
