Sacha Baron Cohen Channels Middle Eastern Tyrant In Hilarious ‘The Dictator’ Trailer

Hopefully doesn’t end up being his ‘The Love Guru’.

First Impressions
My reaction is

‘Borat’ is one of my favorite films of all time and I genuinely think it’s one of the funniest comedies ever made. Sacha Baron Cohen’s brand of humor is extremely risque but manages to get laughs out of you in ways you cannot imagine. ‘Bruno’ was hilarious as well although too overt for many. But he’s now back in a studio film ‘The Dictator’ and the trailer suggests that he’s still out to offend although with huge laughs along the way.

Playing a Middle Eastern tyrant is obviously a very risky role to play and if you think he’s going to play safe, you’re very wrong. The jokes here are out to offend but are admittedly hilarious. The race track sequence at the end is the highlight of the trailer. And hey, we got Megan Fox playing herself in an actually funny looking cameo. On the other hand, Ben Kingsley is here for some very weird reason and it’s just sad to see an Oscar-winner reduced to playing a sidekick.

Ben Kingsley and the fact that another comedian got his big studio film makes me fear that this might be to Baron Cohen what the awful ‘The Love Guru’ was for Mike Meyers. A career-killer, that’s what it was. But Cohen is a great writer and his brand of humor is definitely more out there and I’m sure the film will be even better than the trailer suggests.

Trailer below.
