Action-Packed ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ Trailer Ditches Old Cast For Dwayne Johnson

Solid-looking trailer for the sequel to the 2009 hit.

First Impressions
My reaction is

Even though it was a throaway action film in the end, I actually kinda liked the first ‘G.I. Joe’ movie in 2009 and I personally think it has better action scenes than ‘Transformers 2′. But for the sequel, Paramount pretty much decided to wipe out everyone who existed in the first film and start anew. And literally that’s what happens in the first trailer for ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ which looks a lot of fun with the Rock thrown in for good measure.

When it was reported online that almost no one from the original GI Joe team is returning for the sequel save for Channing Tatum, I actually thought it would be Tatum and Dwayne Johnson battling the bad guys. But turns out, Tatum doesn’t last past the trailer either. Which pretty much means that this new team (and Storm Shadow and Cobra who also return) are the ones doing all the action and in that regard it actually does look pretty solid. And a great cameo at the end by none other than Bruce Willis doesn’t hurt at all. The film is releasing among a packed summer slate of 2012, but hopefully will stand out.

Movie opens June 29, 2012. Trailer below.
