Sappiness Galore In Zac Efron’s ‘The Lucky One’ Trailer
Based on a Nicholas Sparks novel, of course.
Though I found it a decent film, I really have to hate ‘The Notebook’ for beginning a cycle of mediocre tear-jerker Nicholas Sparks adaptations that is each wanting to be the next big hit but somehow never really is. The latest one in line is a Zac Efron starrer ‘The Lucky One’ and it is as schmaltzy as you would expect it to be.
U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Zac Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive-a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know. Learning her name is Beth (Taylor Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel. Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm.
It’s the same old generic plot with hidden secrets and a predictable storyline. The war angle was previously used in ‘Dear John’ which starred Channing Tatum, and being in a sappy movie didn’t do Zac Efron any favors when it was called ‘Charlie St. Cloud’ so this isn’t as safe as a bet as you think it is. He looks good here and for sure will end up attracting the ladies but the movie looks extremely generic and throw-away. Hell, the trailer also ends up pretty much spoiling the entire plot. Again, the trailer for ‘Charlie St. Cloud’ did the same and it ended up being a colossal box-office disappointment.
The movie opens on April 20th, 2012. Trailer below.
