‘Battleship’ Second Trailer A Much Better Adventure
Hasbro’s upcoming actioner is like Michael Bay on steroids.
The first trailer for the upcoming ‘Battleship’ was pretty random and nothing like the board game that its based on. Now, we get a better look at the film and it admittedly looks pretty heavy on some sweet action even though it looks derivative as hell.
Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.
The action is bombastic and it literally feels like a Michael Bay movie at this point, which is in a way a good thing because one is at least getting some action out of it. On the other hand, it looks to lack the soul and character development as well just like any other Bay movie and that’s a damn shame. Sure, it’s probably a lot to ask for character development from a movie named ‘Battleship’ but a sound story isn’t too much to ask is it?
