Jamie Foxx Cast As Lead In Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’, Leonardo DiCaprio Villain
After Will Smith and Idris Elba pass, Jamie Foxx is playing the titular Django in Tarantino’s next.
After Will Smith sadly passed on the chance to play the lead in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Django Unchained’ (his box-office friendly image may have something to do with that), we were all wondering which actor would the offer go to next to play the lead. We already got a confirmation that Leonardo DiCaprio will be playing the villain in the movie which is amazing casting beyond belief. And now, we get almost definitive word that an actor has been cast as Django.

Multiple sources including Variety confirm that actor Jamie Foxx has joined the movie as the lead after the role was offered to him. The role was offered to Idris Elba before, but the actor chose to sign on to Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’ instead.
While it would have been great to see Will Smith doing something out of his comfort zone, I’ve never really been a big fan of Jamie Foxx to have a strong opinion on this. He’s a good actor, but he seems almost always self-aware and conscious which ends up showing in some of his work. Of course, he’s an Oscar winner so makes sense why Tarantino would choose him. But so was Denzel Washington, who seems curiously missing from the discussion.
He will now join DiCaprio, Samuel Jackson and Christoph Waltz as the signed cast members, with some key roles remaining to be cast.
What do you think of the casting?
