‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ International Trailer A Huge Improvement

By Faisal Hashmi on June 25, 2011

Prequel now looks genuinely good thanks to an emotional and well-done trailer.

First Impressions
My reaction is

How much of a difference does a simple trailer make in the anticipation of a movie? ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’ (ridiculous title by the way) tried to impress us with not one but two US trailers that did look flashy and at times effective, but there was something about them that didn’t quite sell us on the whole routine and ended up being more cheesy and funny than the studio had hoped. Just as all of us were going to write it off as a failed prequel, here comes the international trailer that changes our opinion.

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

Firstly, Caesar looks absolutely stunning here and so realistic that props go to WETA for really pulling it off when everyone doubted them not using the make-up and opting for CGI. Aside from that, the trailer really lays out the story for the viewer which some might consider a little bit spoilerish, but it does give the movie a very emotional core and a timeline to what really happens instead of the random imagery the old trailer provided. The action looks good, although I’m still not totally sold on the latter invasion sequences. Overall, this brings the movie back into audience’s radar and I can only hope this is the right representation of the movie’s awesomeness, unlike Green Lantern’s 4 minute trailer that got us all excited for nothing much.

Trailer below.
