David Dobkin is set to Direct the remake of the classic comedy Uptown Saturday Nights. The remake will be scribed by Tim Dowling, and if true to the original will follow the misadventures of two small time hustlers who get robbed of a winning lottery ticket. The plot follows their attempt to find the ticket and make it to the big time at whatever cost (or lie).
The original was Directed by Sidney Poitier who also starred alongside Bill Cosby. The original movie was set in the early 1970′s and it is still unknown whether Dobkin will pursue a complete remake or will he decide to overhaul the story to fit our current day and age.
Since the production is still in its earlier stages Dobkin is still on the lookout to fill the shoes of Steve Jackson and Wardell Franklin the protagonist’s of the original. If Dobkin decides to nab Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle for said roles, it is certainly going to be on my must watch list.
The trailer for the original can be seen below. If your a fan of the trailblazers, this is definitely worth a watch.
