My reaction is

Just when innocent bystanders drew a sigh of relief believing that the scourge which was Twilight had seen its dying days, enter Vampire Academy.

Now to be a pessimist (or best known as a troll) and cast aside this movie as another Twilight would be wrong to the fans of the series which have sold well over 3.5 million within the United States copies and 1 million copies internationally.

Upon further research into Vampire Academy (I just Google image searched the name) I came upon this wonderful picture which immediately summed up the series for me and gave me  mixed feeling of self accomplishment (I told you so) and sheer dread. Here comes another Twilight.

Read more about Vampire Academy below.

According to ComingSoon.net which released a statement by Preger Entertainment (The people who bought the film rights to this unholy tomb of teenage angst):

“The “Vampire Academy” book series is a coming-of-age, action driven, “paranormal romance” fantasy. It is set in the present day against a hidden universe of vampires, half-humans, alchemy, and magic. The series centers on a strong, yet flawed, 17-year-old female who confronts her world with grit, determination, and lots of moxie.

Rose Hathaway is a dhampir, half human/half vampire and guardian of the Moroi, a race of peaceful and magical mortal vampires who can walk in the daylight, survive by feeding off willing blood donors, grow old and die. Hidden deep in the forests of Montana is St. Vladimir’s Academy, where Moroi and dhampirs learn to take their place in Moroi society.

Rose must master her inherited abilities as a dhampir and earn the approval of the Royal Council, as guardian to Princess Lissa, her best friend and sole heir of one of the twelve Royal families of Moroi. Rose and Lissa share a mysterious psychic bond and sense of destiny, but first they must survive an intense social scene, politics and the physical challenges of Moroi life at the Academy.

Outside the sanctuary of St. Vladimir’s waits their greatest threat of all, the Strigoi, a race of bloodthirsty immortal vampires and predators of the Moroi.”

Well there you have it. Another ‘original’ vampire movie, based around a girl and her coming of age dilemma’s which she deals with using a whole lotta ‘moxie’.

There are two ways this new venture could pan out, either the movie gets swept under the rug and it never witnesses the light of day (maybe in the bargain bin).

Another outcome could be that vampires have actually existed amongst us for centuries and decide to protest against the angst-ridden portrayal of their species by our mass media. This of course would involve exterminating the human race…thanks Vampire Academy you killed us all.

The movie is still in its early stages of production so no new information has been released yet, but I have a feeling we might hear a little more about this one.

What are your last thoughts on the subject?

I’ve read most of these books and know that once you start reading you can’t put the book down because you get caught up in the story and the need to know what happens next I doubt the a movie would be able to capture that same feeling as the books do
