As a fan of the gaming franchise I too am slightly conflicted by the concept of a more realistic approach to the series. The concept of dimensional travel does appeal to me which is true to the original, however this picture (which is awesome) gives me hope that the series is actually in production. The “Mortal Kombat” digital series, will star Michael Jai White (Jax), Jeri Ryan (Sonya) and Darren Shahlavi (Kano).
As a strapping young lad I watched Director Paul W.S. Anderson’s Mortal Kombat at least a million times (maybe a little more) and when Annihilation was released in 1997 I was expecting another awesome movie to watch million times over (again).
The sheer disappointment I felt after watching Annihilation could be compared to an child finding their favorite pet goldfish belly up in its little bowl. Just like the child learning about life and maturing slightly after the ordeal, Annihilation helped me mature a little and realize the harsh reality that is our world….and that video game movies tend to suck.
And again as I view this picture I go down that road I felt as a kid, but maybe there is still hope?
For kicks I put the Kevin Tancharoen Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short and a trailer of the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie below. Whats your take on it?
