Since the short movie/speculated trailer Mortal Kombat: Rebirth was released in June 2010, Mortal Kombat enthusiast’s around the world have been abuzz over the sheer awesomeness (and major shortcomings) as well as speculated rumors about a third Mortal Kombat movie in the works.
Well all the rumours have finally been put to rest. Warner Premiere have officially announced the new Mortal Kombat franchise would unfortunately not be developed into a feature film, however it would be adapted into a live-action digital series.
Kevin Tancharoen(creator of the infamous Mortal Kombat:Rebirth trailer and fan of the gaming franchise) will be directing the digital series. The series would dwell into the past of popular Mortal Kombat characters such as Liu Kang, Scorpion, Jax, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage. Shooting of the series was slated to commence in earl February in Vancouver.
Fans of the franchise are divided by the realism that Tancharoen wants to induce into the series and the supernatural elements found in previous live action installments of the Mortal Kombat universe.
On a brighter note, with no plans in the near future of another Mortal Kombat movie in sight, gamers can rest easy knowing they may have dodged another ‘Street Fighter: The Movie ‘ game appearing in the market.
