Being as talented as Eddie Murphy is, the guy is solely responsible for his own downfall thanks to a number of horrendous movie choices including ‘Pluto Nash’ and ‘Meet Dave’ among so many others. He was set for a starring role in ‘Tower Heist’, which Universal imagined as a black Ocean’s Eleven. That never worked out, and then after a number of script changes, Ben Stiller signed on with Brett Ratner directing. Looks like Eddie’s back in the fold.

Deadline reports that Eddie Murphy is once again joining the cast of ‘Tower Heist’ as a supporting role as well as an executive producer on the film. The movie, originally set to be on the Trump tower building where employees rip off residents, is now set on a random high-rise in Manhattan where the employees rob the Wall Street crook who defrauded them of their pensions living currently in the building’s Penthouse. Not as strong a premise, but lots of comedic value to be mined considering the talent involved.
Brett Ratner is probably suited best to comedies and should avoid any adaptation whatsoever if he ever wants to cool his bad rap for ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ down. This is something that might work in the vein of ‘Rush Hour’ for him and I don’t mind him here at all. Will the movie be any good? Eddie is doing supporting role this time which is a positive. And Stiller is always hilarious. So it’s got all the makings.
Rest can go either way.
