When ‘Paranormal Activity’ was released, it was a low-budget indie with immense buzz behind it. By now, it’s known as one of the most overrated horror movies ever (although it was pretty scary) and to top that off, Paramount has a quick sequel in store for us already in a few weeks. ‘Paranormal Activity 2′ doesn’t impress me too much with the trailers, but this weird move is pretty out of left field.

Watch this on a big-ass screen and kiss goodbye to your 50 Dhs. Please?
WB and IMAX has announced that PA2 is getting an IMAX release: Here’s the official press release:
“Paramount has delivered another great movie that we believe will really resonate with IMAX fans,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “The growth of our digital theatre network has allowed us greater flexibility in programming, and we’re very pleased to bring this highly anticipated sequel to the ever-increasing IMAX audience.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Paramount Pictures for Paranormal Activity 2, a film that will be a terrifying treat for IMAX audiences,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “We look forward to sharing the next installment of this highly anticipated movie for a limited two-week run that includes the Halloween weekend.”
Apart from the financial motive of course, there’s a number of things wrong here. The whole point of IMAX was to immerse the viewer into the visuals of a great visual-based movie. The least visual-based movie ever is ‘Paranormal Activity’ and gets shot on handheld or amateur cam with a shaky effect. Now, it will be blown up artificially to fill big-ass screens and charge a good extra amount. Why would you pay for this again?
I’d much rather see ‘Saw 3D’ in 3-D. Death on big screen is pretty cool.
