Mediocre Trailer For Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Faster’

Although it’s refreshing to see Dwayne Johnson going back to the genre that fits him best, what could have been an iconic return to form looks like a rehash of a gazillion revenge flicks if I base my opinion on this new trailer for ‘Faster’.

After 10 years in prison, Driver (Dwayne Johnson) has a singular focus – to avenge the murder of his brother during the botched bank robbery that led to his imprisonment. Now a free man with a deadly to-do list in hand, he’s finally on his mission…but with two men on his trail – a veteran cop (Billy Bob Thornton) just days from retirement, and a young egocentric hitman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) with a flair for the art of killing and a newfound worthy opponent. The hunter is also the hunted. It’s a do or die race to the list’s finish as the mystery surrounding his brother’s murder deepens, and new details emerge along the way hinting that Driver’s list may be incomplete.
Billy Bob Thornton looks great here and there’s some good chase sequences but there’s not one thing that distinguishes the movie from the hundreds of revenge movies of late. Even Dwayne Johnson’s own ‘Walking Tall’ had the same kind of thing going on. This is where the movie might fail at the box-office – to bring something new to the table and the box-office bank-ability of Johnson is still up for grabs. So far, I’m not impressed. But I’ll wait to make my judgment on this one.
