After last year’s brilliant success with ‘District 9′, most filmmakers are taking the indie route to their sci-fi films that are made on a very low budget and marketed virally. Such is the case with the upcoming sci-fi romance ‘Monsters’ which is made on a reported budget of $15,000 and has some great special effects, which has Hollywood going ga-ga over the director. Here is the first poster for the movie.

Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life form began to appear and half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the creatures…… Our story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border.
I rather suggest to not watch the trailers at all just like I did with ‘District 9′ although thankfully that one didn’t spoil the major plot points. But this one probably might. Why take the risk? Anyway, the poster takes a very low key approach of taking a still from the movie and marking it as a miminalistic poster that works well in this context. Buzzed about indies are just my thing, so can’t wait for this movie to debut.
Movie opens in October in the U.S. and will roll out gradually among the rest of the world.
