Being the behemoth that ‘Avatar’ was, one had to wonder how much of its $2.7 billion worldwide gross went to the mastermind behind it all – James Cameron himself. We knew it had to be a big number thanks to gross participation. But now we know just how big it is. And it is huge.

Deadline reports that James Cameron has earned a hefty and record shattering $350 million from the movie. He was the writer, director and the producer of the project and the amount is mostly thanks to gross participation of the film’s profit. Read that amount carefully. The guy has now personally made more than ‘Robin Hood’ or ‘Prince of Persia’ have grossed worldwide.
The major factor here was the DVD sales which broke all kinds of records. He already had earned a huge $97 million with ‘Titanic’ decades earlier, and now this amount should make him comfortable financially for generations now. And keep in mind that ‘Avatar’ is set for an August release later this year, followed by a sequel.
Lots of money coming for Mr. Cameron. A whole lot.
