First Look: Paul Bettany’s ‘Priest’ In 3-D

‘Legion’, a supernatural actioner that came out a few months ago, never really interested me. It had a cool concept but the trailer was way too cheesy (not to mention it spoiled the whole movie) for me to check it out. And reviews agreed. Another film by Paul Bettany himself was set to release January until Screen Gems decided for a 3-D conversion and moved it to next January and then next March. Now it’s next May. At least here we have a first look.

An adaptation of a TokyoPop comic book, the story is set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire and follows a warrior priest who turns against the church to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
So ‘Taken’ with vampires? It’s an interesting idea but the first look looks way too cheesy for my tastes again. It would be fine if it was a tongue in cheek horror film, but the movie takes itself seriously too. Which is where it fails.
I’m guessing the 3-D might help offset some of the losses.
