With the influx of 3-D movies saturating cinemas right now, the only way any movie can set itself apart is how it uses its 3-D in a unique way. Here’s why the upcoming ‘Piranha 3-D’ looks like a must-see in 3-D – it promises a total bloodbath in all its 3-D glory. And to hint on that fact, here is the poster.
Jaws…lots and lots of jaws. From acclaimed director Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) comes the new action thriller PIRANHA 3D, in the latest eye-popping 3D technology. A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on beautiful Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents. But our heroine (Elisabeth Shue) is seriously outnumbered, and with only one chance to save the lake and her family from totally being devoured, she must risk everything to destroy the aquatic carnivores herself.
There are reports that the movie contains a full 20 minute scene where piranhas are tearing apart tourists at the beach. Now I don’t know about you, but the gore-hound in me would definitely want to see something like that in 3-D. In fact, 3-D is probably the only thing that makes this movie a must-see in the cinemas, if at all. The poster is simple in what it’s selling (although the fish looks more like a T-Rex). If only every movie uses 3-D creatively, we would all appreciate it much more.
Movie opens August 20th.
