Neill Blomkamp Rumored For Directing ‘The Hobbit’

Finally, a rumor for the ill-fated film that actually excites. Since Guillermo Del Toro left ‘The Hobbit’ after he got tired of waiting for bankrupt MGM to gather funds, rumors were aplenty as to who will take over directing duties. Of course, everyone suggested that Peter Jackson himself finish what he started and he even toyed with the idea of it. But then, some awful names were suggested including Brett Ratner. David Yates was a somewhat good choice, although now a substantial rumor suggests a much better one.

TheOneRing.net reports that close spies have suggested to them that director Niell Blomkamp is the new director of ‘The Hobbit’. If you don’t know the name, go out and rent ‘District 9′. Under Peter Jackson’s advisory, he made the film out of his own original idea on a $30 million budget and earned critical acclaim and more than $200 million worldwide. It even got itself an Oscar nomination. We all want Jackson to do the film, but right now the next best choice is definitely Blomkamp.

Word is, Peter Jackson doesn’t want to step in as director and will only visit the set minimally if ever. And he’s looking for someone he can trust the franchise with. In this regard, the rumor holds candle. But will Blomkamp really step into the long shooting schedule of ‘The Hobbit’?
