With 2023 now behind us, it’s time to look ahead to the exciting slate of movies on the horizon in 2024. Film buffs had plenty to be happy about last year, with notable releases like Killers of the Flower Moon and Oppenheimer. Despite delays caused by a writer’s strike, this year’s lineup of films is shaping up to be highly promising. So, without further ado, let’s dive into the most anticipated movies of 2024!

BEST MOVIES ON

Mark your calendars because these films are bound to make a splash. From heartwarming comedies to fresh takes on horror classics to thrilling additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is something for everyone.

Here are the top 10 films that everyone is eagerly anticipating in 2024, along with their expected UAE release dates:

Madame Web (February 14, 2024)

Madame Web is a highly anticipated spin-off in Sony’s take on the Spider-Man franchise. Based on the trailer and the star-studded cast, this new addition to the ever-expanding superhero genre promises to satisfy fans of Marvel Comics and MCU aficionados alike. The movie’s release was delayed twice, so we’re hoping it will finally hit cinemas on Valentine’s Day this year.

Dakota Johnson appears in the titular clairvoyant role along with Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter, and Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin.

Dune: Part Two (Mar 14, 2024)

The second part of the hit sci-fi epic based on the equally beloved novel of the same name is finally coming to theatres worldwide. 2021’s Dune received no less than six Oscars, and it’s widely considered the best science fiction movie of the century, so we’re hopeful the sequel will be just as good, making it one of the most anticipated movies of 2024.

Dune: Part 2 continues Paul Atreides’s (Timothée Chalamet) story, along with Chani (Zendaya) and the Freemen, who embark on a mission to avenge his family.

The First Omen (April 5, 2024)

Last year we had a direct sequel to The Exorcist (1973), this year it’s time for another classic 70s horror to get a modern revival. The First Omen is meant to serve as a prequel to 1976’s The Omen in which a young American woman goes to Rome to work at a church only to discover a less-than-holy conspiracy in the Vatican. While the trailer doesn’t give much away, it does promise a couple of nostalgic scares.

Abigail (April 26, 2024)

Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the upcoming horror Abigail is a reimagining of the 1936 classic Dracula’s Daughter.

The movie follows a group of people who kidnap the child of a wealthy family in hopes of improving their fortunes. Little did they know, the little girl was not exactly helpless. She’s a blood-thirsty vampire and wants her would-be kidnappers for dinner.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (May 24, 2024)

Originally scheduled for release in the summer of 2023, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga serves as an origin story for fan-favourite Imperator Furiosa (played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road).

Anya Taylor-Joy portrays the younger version of the character, while Chris Hemsworth joins the cast in the role of Warlord Dementus. This is the fifth entry to the Mad Max franchise and the first spin-off in the series.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (May 2024)

It’s been several years since we’ve visited the post-apocalyptic ape-ruled world started by the brave Cesar. This fourth movie in the revival franchise is set 300 years after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes in a world where humans have been reduced to primitive animals, and the ruling apes hunt for fun. The movie follows Noa (Owen Teague), a young chimpanzee, on a journey to improve the future for apes and humans alike.

Inside Out 2 (June 14, 2024)

The sequel to the 2015 animation follows Joy Amy Poehler, Sadness (Phyllis Smith), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Tony Hale), and Disgust (Liza Lapira), as they must accommodate a new emotion marking Riley as she’s entering her teenage years; Anxiety.

When Disney released a teaser trailer for Inside Out 2 late last year, it went viral. This may just be on the top of the most anticipated movies of 2024 list when it comes to family-friendly movies. Hopefully, it handles the perils of adolescence with touching hilarity.

A Quiet Place: Day One (June 2024)

While there’s not much information out there about the third instalment of the A Quiet Place franchise, this is a spin-off prequel set in the same post-apocalyptic universe.

The synopsis is still kept tightly under wraps, but we can only hope this title will further explore the creatures in its universe and divulge more about their origin and how they took over the world. Confirmed cast members include Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, and Djimon Hounsou.

Deadpool 3 (July 2024)

Deadpool 3 marks the first movie in the meta-superhero series led by Ryan Reynolds to be released as part of Disney’s MCU. There are plenty of reasons to get excited over the return of everyone’s favourite wisecracking mercenary who can’t die, including Hugh Jackman, who is returning as the iconic Wolverine.

It’s too early to say if the beloved character will face any negative changes due to Disney’s involvement, but we can only hope that won’t be the case.

Beetlejuice 2 (September 6, 2024)

Beetlejuice 2 is easily one of the most anticipated movies of 2024, as we get to see Michael Keaton reprising his iconic role after more than three decades.

If the teaser trailer is anything to go by, the long-awaited sequel will feature more ghostly apparitions and hilariously dark adventures. The movie was written and directed by Tim Burton, and it stars an ensemble cast that includes Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Willem Dafoe, and Monica Bellucci.

So there you have it, the cream of the crop when it comes to the most anticipated movies of 2024. We want to know which film you’re looking forward to the most, so let us know in the comments below. As always, stay tuned for updates and mark your calendars for an unforgettable year at the movies!
