Update: Hideo Kojima has officially confirmed the Death Stranding movie with A24. In a tweet, he writes, “There are a lot of “game adaptation films” out there but what we are creating is not just a direct translation of the game. The intention is that our audience will not only be fans of the game, but out film will be for anyone who loves cinema. We are creating a Death Stranding universe that has never been seen before, achievable only through the medium of film, it will be born.”
A Death Stranding movie is in the works from A24 and Kojima Productions, and the announcement – or rather a confirmation – comes from a peculiar place.

Original story:
The news comes from a new Death Stranding-themed T-shirt from A24, where the product description reads, “It’s official: we’ve partnered with Kojima Productions on the live-action feature film adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed video game, DEATH STRANDING.”

It’s not entirely surprising that a movie for Death Stranding is in the works – Kojima had commented about it back in June this year, stating that he is “deeply involved in producing, supervision, plotting, look, design and content of the film adaptation of DS, just not in charge of directing.”

The film adaptation was initially announced in 2022, and it would “introduce new elements and characters within the Death Stranding universe.”

Death Stranding, a 2019 action-adventure, is set in the United States following a cataclysmic event that wiped off a large chunk of the human population and left weird and dangerous creatures in their wake. Players controlled Sam Porter Bridges (played by Norman Reedus), a courier tasked with delivering supplies and other knick-knacks to isolated colonies and reconnecting them via a wireless communications network.

The game sits at a comfortable 83 per cent on Opencritic, and it was hailed for its unique gameplay mechanics, incredible visuals and solid performances from the cast, which included Mads Mikkelsen, Lea Seydoux, Margaret Qualley, Troy Baker, Tommie Earl Jenkins, and more. Hideo Kojima was also lauded for his almost Nostradamus-esque prediction of how the world would look in a world that was plagued by a virus, as the game was released right before the pandemic started.

With the movie now officially confirmed and presumably in pre-production, whom do you want to see playing the lead characters? Let us know in the comments!
