After a string of rumours over the past month, Epic Games has finally confirmed that, indeed, Fortnite, its mega-popular battle royale shooter, will be returning to its Chapter 1 roots.

In a tweet, the publisher confirmed the news, posting an image of the classic Battle Bus from the game, as well as a launch date: November 3, 2023.

Epic Games also mentions “sprint” and “mantle”, directly addressing rumours that the more modern locomotion mechanics introduced after Chapter 1 would not be included in the game. It is wild to imagine that such mechanics were not part of the game initially, and it makes sense that Epic Games has left those untouched to suit the changed habits of its players.

We can expect more information about the new Chapter 1 in the coming days, and it will be interesting to see how much of the original map is retained while still catering to the modern additions to the game ever since.

Chapter 1 and some of the seasons after that are highly regarded as the peak of the Fortnite experience (at least that’s what my nephew tells me), and it’s no surprise that Epic is visiting them to reinvigorate the game to bring back new and old players alike. Will it still be as enjoyable as it was before? We shall see!

Besides this, Epic Games also released the Alan Wake: Flashback Experience, which allows players to recap the events from the first instalment of Remedy’s third-person horror. This was announced just before the launch of Alan Wake 2, which has received high praise from critics, with an average score of 90% on both Opencritic and Metacritic.
