2K’s survival-horror sequel pushed back until February.

Publisher 2K has revealed that its upcoming survival horror follow-up, The Darkness 2, has been pushed back until 2012

The Digital Extremes FPS was originally due on October 7 in North America, now it’s releasing on February 7, 2012 in North America and February 10 in the rest of the world.

No reasons were given for the delay, but it makes sense that it’s perhaps due to the impending busy high-profile releases throughout this specific period, with games like Battlefield 3, RAGE, Gears of War 3 and Dark Souls also hitting the gaming shelves in fall.

Dark Sector developers to handle rein; coming Fall 2011.

Press release:
2K Games announced today that The Darkness II, the sequel to the million unit-selling 2007 title, The Darkness, will be coming to the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC in fall 2011. Developed by Digital Extremes and based on the supernatural horror comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II takes players down a brutal and personal path as Jackie Estacado, wielder of The Darkness – an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction.

The Darkness II breaks out of the sea of conventional first-person shooters with its fervid Quad-Wielding gameplay, which will allow players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with their Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons. The game is layered with the use of dark versus light, steeped in deep and twisted storytelling, and engulfed in stylistic violence that is visualized through a hand-painted graphic noir technique that stays true to its comic book origins.

w

“The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence, and it’s a stylized and beautiful nightmare,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “The Darkness II continues the 2K Games tradition of delivering quality, innovative games that are filled to the brim with atmosphere and deep storytelling. The game takes a unique stance on fighting in the dark versus light. Combined with the arsenal of weapons at Jackie’s disposal and the gruesome attacks of the supernatural Demon Arms and Darkness powers, we’re proud to announce another title that delivers on our core values of creating games for gamers.”

The Darkness II will feature award-winning comic book writer, Paul Jenkins, who will provide a tightly integrated narrative that weaves dark humor with hardcore tenderness.

Take a step back from the familiar and comfortable, and prepare to embrace The Darkness.

It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Franchetti crime family, used The Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural power, and now The Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war, which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for The Darkness to reemerge, and sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse, as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of The Darkness itself.

“Sometimes that whooshing sound you hear is that of comic fans holding their collective breath,” said Marc Silvestri, founder and CEO of Top Cow Productions and co-creator of The Darkness comics. “So often disappointed when a favorite character gives birth to a lame movie or video game, us fans have come to expect the worst. And sometimes we get it. But not with The Darkness II. Yeah, call me biased, but this second installment of Jackie Estacado’s epic saga is – in my humble opinion – one of the most brutally cool games I’ve ever played. 2K Games hammered this one out of the park.”

The Darkness II is not yet rated by PEGI. For more information on The Darkness II, please visit www.embracethedarkness.com.

PC version gets some extra love with full 3D support, and a number of extensive features.

Developer Digital Extremes has revealed that the PC version of forthcoming THQ shooter Homefront will ship with full 3D support, and portion of exclusive features not available on its console counterparts.

The announcement of PC extra features were made via the game’s official site. Homefront PC will benefit from full 3D support, which will be optimized for Nvidia 3D Vision. The view of controlled vehicles can be switched from the first-person perspective cockpit to its third-person prospect.

Extra vehicle abilities have been added for co-pilots, such as Recon function to the scout helicopter. It was mentioned that joystick control is supported for all vehicles.

Digital Extremes also provided a practice mode for players to polish their skills before jumping right on to the war zone. Most importantly, the PC version gets a Squad Team Management system, with squad-based VOIP, as well as full Clan Support.

The PC developers also added three Helicopter control options:

Ace: Allows for the best maneuverability, but takes the most practice to master.

Veteran: Balanced difficulty and maneuverability.

Rookie: Pick-up-and-play level of difficulty, least maneuverable.

Homefront PC will be a Steam title. The game launches simultaneously alongside the Kaos Studios-developed Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions on March 11.

2K Games' underwater shooter to be available in Feburary, 2010.

Time to pick up the plasmids and don the Big Daddy suit. 2K Games today announced that its awaited underwater shooter sequel, Bioshock 2, will be releasing on Feburary 9, 2010 worldwide.

Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. Players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, as they travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and their own survival.

Multiplayer in BioShock 2 will provide a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the BioShock toolset to survive, as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture.

BioShock 2 is currently in development at 2K Marin in collaboration with 2K Australia, Digital Extremes and 2K China for the Xbox 360, PC and PS3.
